Bayo Onanuga Warns Zamfara Governor Coveting Mineral Resources

Ololade Adeyanju/

Renowned media chief and Founder of The News Magazine/PM News, Mr Bayo Onanuga, has raised the alarm over claims by Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, to the ownership of Gold deposits found in the state.

Reacting to Matawalle’s claim, Onanuga who is also a former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stated in a post on Facebook: “Has the Nigerian constitution been amended secretly on the ownership of mineral and oil resources? Governor Bello Matawalle has taken full ownership for his state of the gold found there. Is the gold Zamfara’s or the property of the entire Federation? Someone needs to remind Matawalle about the constitution or else, other states can shut out the Federal Government from claiming rights over crude oil and other mineral resources in their backyard.”
