The FCT Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its sustained fight against violent crime with the arrest of three notorious “one-chance” armed robbery suspects linked to the gruesome murder of Abuja-based legal practitioner, Barrister Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo.
According to a statement issued by FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the suspects were apprehended following firm directives by the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, to ensure that everyone connected to the heinous killing and similar crimes in the Federal Capital Territory is swiftly identified and brought to justice.
Princess Chigbo, the elder sister of immediate-past President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Ms Maureen Chigbo, was killed on Monday, January 5, 2026, after being seized by unknown assailants in Abuja who spoke with the family on the phone asking for a ransom of N3million.
Police investigations revealed that between January 5 and 10, 2026, operatives of the Command’s elite Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, deployed reconstructive digital intelligence to track the victim’s mobile phone. This intelligence-led operation culminated in coordinated follow-ups across Dei-Dei, Dakwa and Dan-Tata communities in the Kubwa axis of Abuja.
Those arrested are Saifullahi Yusuf (22) and Ishau Yusuf (24), biological brothers—and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia, all from Kaduna State. Police disclosed that the trio are members of a long-running “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate notorious for striking during festive periods within the FCT.
According to preliminary findings, Barrister Chigbo was attacked on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., after unknowingly boarding the suspects’ black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway. Investigators said the suspects wound up the vehicle’s tinted windows, threatened her with weapons and attempted to force her to raise ransom for her release. When she allegedly resisted, she was assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, leading to fatal injuries.
The suspects reportedly confessed to dispossessing the victim of her Android phone, which was later sold at Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. Police said the proceeds were shared among the suspects, while another accomplice, identified simply as Musa, remains at large.
During the arrests, officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the gang’s operations, including scissors, dagger knives, other knives, a long chain used to restrain victims and a pair of pliers.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with intensified efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle any wider criminal networks linked to the syndicate.
Commending the professionalism and dedication of the operatives, CP Dantawaye reassured residents that the Command remains resolute in ridding the FCT of criminal elements. He also urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered or suspicious vehicles and promptly report suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
Further updates, the police said, would be provided as investigations progress.
