A customer of Guaranty Trust Bank was shot today at the ATM gallery of the Bode Thomas branch, Surulere, in Lagos.
NewsmakersNG learnt from eyewitnesses that the robbers who arrived on a bike accosted the unidentified male customer, who just withdrew a huge sum from the ATM and asked him to hand over the money.
The victim, however, tried to run into the banking hall, prompting the robbers to shoot him before speeding off on their bike.
One of the eyewitnesses recalled: “The man who was shot was approached and asked for money he withdrew from the ATM on his way into the bank. He refused to hand over the money and that was when he was shot. The robbers mounted a bike and sped off.”
In a reaction, the police said the victim had been rushed to the hospital and was in stable condition.
They added that the Commander in charge of Area ‘C’ Surulere had moved more policemen to the scene.
