The Oyo State Government has confirmed the killing of five officers of the National Park Service Forest Guards in a bandit attack on the National Park Office in Oloka Village, Oriire Local Government Area.

In a statement posted on his social media handles, Governor Seyi Makinde described the incident as a devastating loss and condoled with the families of the fallen officers, noting that they were killed while carrying out their lawful duties in service to the nation.

According to the governor, preliminary investigations by security agencies indicate that the attack was a cross-border operation by bandits, underscoring growing security threats along border communities. He said security agencies were already working in close coordination to address the situation and prevent further incursions.

“I appeal to residents of Oyo State, especially those in Oriire Local Government Area and other border LGAs, to remain calm,” Makinde said, adding that normalcy had been restored following the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected area.

The governor also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that could aid ongoing investigations and operations.

Makinde assured the people that his administration would leave no stone unturned in responding decisively to the attack and strengthening security across border communities to prevent a recurrence.

Security presence remains heightened in Oloka Village and surrounding areas as investigations continue into the deadly assault.
