No fewer than seven farmers were reportedly killed by gunmen, who attacked three villages in Katsina State at the weekend.
Ibrahim Danjuma Machika, the lawmaker representing the affected area in the State House of Assembly, reported the killings during the plenary session of the House, today.
Machika, who sponsored a motion on the need to reinforce security in the area, said the incident happened in broad daylight, adding that over 30 others were kidnapped during the attacks.
He listed the affected communities as Unguwar Maigayya, Tashar Bama and Dogun Muazu in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
“Our people now live in full fear as the terrorists now carry out attacks in our villages in broad daylight. They killed the people, carted away their properties and abducted as many people as they could,” he said.
The lawmaker said that the attacks had become a daily affair and as such members of the communities were living in fear.
The Speaker of the assembly, Tasi’u Zango, condemned the attacks and directed the clerk of the House to forward the position of members on the need to urgently strengthen security in the state to Governor Aminu Masari.
