Bafana Bafana shocked Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their first qualifying match for the African Cup of Nations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
It was the first time in 23 years that the South Africans would beat the Super Eagles.
The South African team won the encounter 2-0, leaving Nigerian fans shocked.
The goals were scored in the 55th and 82nd minutes by R.Tokelo and P.Tau.
Libya mauled Seychelles 5-1 in the second match of Group E, placing the Libyans top of the table, with South Africa second.
Kwara State Director of Sports, Mr. Tunde Kazeem expressed disappointment over Super Eagles 0-2 loss to Bafana Bafana.
According to Kazeem, there was no excuse for the team to have lost. He added that it was a bad Saturday for the country.
Kazeem said the country was lucky to have conceded two goals only as the visitors were ready to disgrace Nigeria more.
His words: “I am so disappointed. I can’t believe what happened today.
“There was no midfield, the defense was flat, goalkeeping zero. If not for the God of soccer, the South Africans could have scored more goals.
” I don’t know what excuse the team will give Nigerians because they have no excuse to have failed.
“We played against South Africa and this is what we get, what will happen when we play countries like Algeria.
“The expectations were high and this is what we get at the end. It is a pity, very bad Saturday for us.”
