Chidinma Akalezi, an accounting student from Babcock University in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, has distinguished herself by winning four prestigious prizes from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Akalezi was honored with the ICAN Merit Prize for 1st Overall Professional Level, November 2023 diet, the Akintola Williams Deloitte and Touché Prize for the Best Qualifying Candidate in a Diet; Past President Dame Onome Joy Adewuyi Prize for the Best Qualifying Female Candidate in the Diet and SWAN Prize for the Best Qualifying Female Candidate in the Diet.
NewsmakersNG learned that from a young age, Akalezi has felt a deep connection to accounting and a natural affinity for numbers. She humorously, yet confidently declared her aspiration to become a Chartered Accountant, understanding even then the higher distinction it held.
Akalezi expressed profound gratitude for her ICAN journey, which culminated in her being the top candidate among 2,015 candidates. When her lecturer at Babcock University called to inform her of the win, she initially thought it was a joke.
This experience underscored the value of hard work, determination, and passion. Initially planning to wait until graduation to take the exams, her dedicated lecturers encouraged her to proceed earlier, and she is thankful for their guidance.
Akalezi credited her success to God’s unending grace. Even when success seemed unattainable, she felt divinely assured that she had no limits. She attributes her ability to solve complex questions with ease to a spirit of wisdom, excellence, and a teachable mindset instilled in her by her faith.
She extended heartfelt appreciation to the Department of Accounting at Babcock University for their exceptional guidance and support, and to the Networth Tutorial Center for simplifying complex topics, which was instrumental to her success. She also expressed deep gratitude to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Justin Akalezi, and her friends and family for their unwavering support, prayers, and encouragement.
Confident that this achievement is just the beginning of many more milestones, Akalezi encouraged others to join her on this journey, promising that it would be filled with success. She thanked everyone who celebrated with her and expressed blessings for all.
