An Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode has dismissed a request by popular musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal 1 (KWAM 1), also known as K1, seeking an interim injunction to halt the nomination process for the Awujale of Ijebuland.

The Awujale throne became vacant following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona on July 13, 2025, sparking a heated succession contest.

K1 had shown interest in the position but was reportedly rejected by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

Following this rejection, K1 approached the court, filing a suit against Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and five others, requesting a suspension of the nomination process.

On Monday, Hon. Justice A. A. Omoniyi of the High Court 3, Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, ruled that the injunction could not be granted.

The judge stated that neither Governor Abiodun nor the Fusengbuwa Ruling House could be barred from proceeding with the selection of a new Awujale, describing K1’s request as lacking merit.

Justice Omoniyi, however, allowed the substantive case to move forward and scheduled the next hearing for January 14, 2026.
