One-time Head of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Tunji Disu has been promoted to substantive Commissioner of Police (CP), the Police Service Commission (PSC) announced today.

Disu is among some 5,038 officers including 33 deputy commissioners of police elevated by the PSC at the 19th Plenary Meeting of the Commission held in Abuja on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023, presided over by Commission’s acting Chairman, Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi JSC retd, CFR.  

According to a statement from the PSC’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, 24 Commissioners of Police, including Frank Mba (Ogun State Command) and Muhammed Ali (Delta State Command) have also been promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), as well as AIG Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to replace retired DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo as the representative of the Southwest Geopolitical Zone of the country.

Prior to his promotion, Disu has been the Head of the IRT, a former Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos State, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja. He had also served at the State CID, Rivers State as the Deputy Head of the Unit. He was a Commander of the Nigeria Police Contingent to the African Union (AU) Peace Keeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan.

He made Nigeria and the police force proud by winning a silver medal at the US 33rd Open Judo Championship.

Disu’s tenure as IRT and RRS Boss witnessed the enthronement of strict professionalism, transforming it into a highly responsible and responsive unit, which also enjoyed the trust and cooperation of the public.

DCP Disu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the Lagos State University (LASU) and a master’s degree in public administration from the Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State. He has also attended several professional courses both at home and abroad: Small Arms Smuggling Training in Botswana, Internet Fraud Training at Cambridge University, UK, Strategic Leadership Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos; Forensic Investigations and Criminal Intelligence Course at the University of Lagos, amongst others. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, and Chattered Institute of Personnel Management, amongst other professional bodies.
