Ativie vs Imasuen: LP Chieftain Condemns Fake News on Conflict Resolution

Matilda Omonaiye/

A Labour Party (LP) chieftain in Edo State, Chief Friday Toyin Ibadin, has debunked a report on social media pre-empting the submission of the 11-man Security, Peace, and Conflict Resolution Committee set up to reconcile aggrieved members within the party, including those who contested for House of Representative ticket.

Chief Ibadin, who is the Chairman of the Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee raised the alarm on a post, credited to one Blessing P Agho, captioned ‘On Hon Murphy Imasuen and His Stolen Mandate’. The post claimed that the committee has resolved, after meeting parties involved in a dispute, that the mandate held by one party should be given to another.

Describing Agbo’s publication as falsehood, and mischief that is highly unacceptable, Chief Ibadin told NewsmakersNG: “Whoever is behind this tissue of lies is wasting his time and only out to blackmail. We have not come up with any report on all the issues before we went on holiday. We have not also heard from all the parties concerned. All the pieces of evidence needed have not been produced by those expected to bring them. So how do you write a report without all the necessary evidence to support your argument? It is all lies and blackmail.”

Agbo stated in the post: “It beats my imagination to understand why the desperate Elizabeth Ativie will stoop so low to deceive her followers to keep getting their support.

“Last week, the National body of Labour Party in their wisdom set up an 11- man security, peace, and conflict resolution committee to reconcile the aggrieved members within the party. Upon this arrangement, Hon Murphy received a call from them to attend the peace meeting of which he attended the meeting last week.

“After listening to both parties, it was resolved that the mandate should be returned to the legitimate owner (Murphy Imasuen). We are waiting for the court to resume so that the court can order INEC to make the change. This was the resolution.

“To further clear the air, Elizabeth Uyinmwen Ativie and Julius Odianosen Abure will soon be arrested for forging a withdrawal letter on behalf of Murphy Imasuen and charged to court.”

Describing the post as a figment of their imagination, Chief Ibadin said, “We have not completed our work. It’s a bogus lie. It’s an insult to us. Whoever alleges must prove.

“The issue before the committee is an internal affair of the party for which the committee was set up to resolve as one big family and this is what we have set out to do and this is what we are doing as members.”

Reports say Imasuen had gone to court after the emergence of former House of Assembly Speaker in Edo, Rt. Hon. Uyinmwen Ativie, as the candidate of LP in the upcoming election for the Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency seat.
