Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met with ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in a closed-door session at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, today.
Atiku, who served as Vice President under Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, arrived at the venue at approximately 12.36pm, accompanied by former Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, as well as Senator Abdul Ningi.
The specifics of their discussion remain undisclosed, leading to widespread speculation about the meeting’s purpose.
Given Nigeria’s dynamic political landscape, such interactions between prominent political figures often spark debates and analyses regarding potential alliances, policy discussions, or strategic planning.
Historically, the relationship between Obasanjo and Atiku has been complex. During their tenure, tensions arose, particularly over policy disagreements and political ambitions.
In 2006, a notable rift developed when Atiku opposed Obasanjo’s alleged bid for a third term, leading to a public falling out.
Over the years, however, there have been attempts at reconciliation, with both leaders occasionally meeting to discuss national issues.
The presence of Tambuwal and Imoke adds another layer to the meeting’s significance.
Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, is a key figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Imoke, who governed Cross River State, is also a prominent PDP member.
Their involvement suggests that the discussions might have encompassed party strategies or upcoming political events.
