Atiku Commends Police, Army for Foiling Abuja Bank Robbery

Malik Yahya/

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has commended the proactive response of the police and army to the attack on a branch of First Bank in Abuja today.

A combined team of police and army personnel had successfully foiled the robbery, killing one of the suspects and arresting four.

Atiku in a tweet on his verified handle, @atiku, said he was proud of the exploits of the police and army that responded to the incident.

He expressed the hope this would be “the face of a “reinvigorated security” in the country.

His tweet reads: “I am proud of the proactiveness of the @HQNigerianArmy and @PoliceNG in foiling the bank robbery in Abuja. It is my hope that this will be the face of a reinvigorated security in the new year.”

The gang had stormed the bank located in Mpape, a suburb of the capital city this afternoon but were trapped after security operatives surrounded the premises before they could escape.

This led to a long standoff as the robbers holed up in the bank and refused to surrender.

One of those arrested is said to be a staff of the bank who allegedly acted as an informant to the gang.
