The leadership of the Assemblies of God Church has directed its pastors to marry only women who are members of the denomination

The church warned that no approval will be granted for marriages outside the church.

The directive was issued by the General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Abel Amadi, during the Assemblies of God 2026 Leaders’ Retreat held at Evangel Camp, Okpoto, in Ebonyi State.

Addressing pastors and senior church leaders at the retreat, Amadi instructed district presbyteries to enforce the policy strictly, stressing that requests for marriage approval must comply with the new requirement.

“No pastor should be allowed to marry outside the Assemblies of God. Presbytery, you must take note of this and ensure it is not allowed,” he said.

The General Superintendent also advised pastors who are seeking marriage partners to look within the denomination, including across different states, rather than outside the church.

“If you have gone to Rivers State, go to Umuahia. If you don’t find one in Umuahia, go to Enugu. If you don’t find one in Enugu, go to Lagos. As you continue, God will provide you with a woman who will support you in ministry,” he added.

The directive, announced at the retreat, places responsibility on district leadership structures to ensure compliance among pastors under their supervision.
