Appearances are often deceptive.

That was the lesson two suspected armed robbers learnt in Ogun State, today as they ended up with bloody noses when they targeted two ladies who turned out to be policewomen.

According to the state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the women were driving to their station when they were double-crossed by two pistol-wielding men on a motorbike.

Oyeyemi said, “The women were driving in a car belonging to one of them from Ifo, going to Sango Ota. On getting to Iyana-Ilogbo area, the two suspects suddenly double-crossed them with a motorcycle and held them hostage with a locally made pistol.

“After collecting their bags and phones, the suspects were about to jump on their motorcycle when the two female officers engaged then in a fight and raised the alarm.

“Having sensed danger, the suspects, Hafiz Omidokun, 29 years, and Peter Babalola, 27 years, took to their heels while the officers with the help of passers-by gave them a hot chase.

“Realizing that they were about to be caught, the suspects made an attempt to snatch another motorcycle for the purpose of using it to escape. It was there and then they were apprehended.

“They were about to be lynched by an angry mob when the DPO Sango Division, CSP Oyedele Nasirudeen, who had earlier received the distress call, arrived with his patrol team, rescued them, and took them to the station.”

NewsmakersNG learnt that items recovered from the suspects included one locally made pistol, one expended cartridge and a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation.
