The management of ARISE News has paid a condolence visit to the family of its late journalist, Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, who was killed in a robbery attack in Abuja earlier this week.
Led by Deputy Managing Director, Bayo Awosemo, the delegation included Director of News, Sumner Sambo and Director of Corporate Services Christopher Isiguzo.
They visited the Maduagwu family at their Port Harcourt residence on Tuesday, on behalf of ARISE Chairman, Prince Nduka Obaigbena.
During the visit, the management team offered prayers and words of comfort, pledging continued support to the family as they mourn the tragic loss.
Maduagwu, 29, was confirmed dead after armed robbers stormed her apartment block in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday.
Police said a security guard was also killed during the attack, which eyewitnesses claim was carried out by about 15 assailants who broke into multiple flats, carting away cash, electronics, and vehicles.
Her death has sparked widespread outrage, with colleagues and civil society groups calling for improved security and a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the response of emergency services.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation, while ARISE News management has called for the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
Maduagwu, a lawyer turned journalist, was widely praised as a promising broadcaster with a passion for social justice issues.
She would have turned 30 in December.
