Another Bankers Warehouse bullion van loaded with cash belonging to some commercial banks in Lagos has been impounded by Area ‘J’ Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gbolahan Olugbemi, for allegedly disobeying police directives.
It was the third bullion van impounded within 10 days in the Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos
According to the police, the impounded bullion van was not accompanied by police security as directed by the Lagos State commissioner of police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu, that every bullion van conveying money must have two escort vehicles – one in the front and one at the back with a minimum of four mobile policemen in each escort vehicle.
Police authorities at Area ‘J’ told NewsmakersNG that for quite sometimes now, “this nationwide/internationally approved standard for specie escort has not been followed especially in Lagos by operators of cash in transit. Lekki Peninsula is known to be a high-risk area because of its geographical location – in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Lagoon. This made it vulnerable. It was on this background that the Area Commander, Area ‘J’, ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi psc vowed to enforce the directives of Lagos State CP to the letter on specie escort. True to his words, this is making it the third bullion van that will be impounded under his Area command. He needs to guard against what will bring embarrassment to the state command and to Nigeria Police in general”.
