The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Solomon Arase today shared his dream of an ideal Police organisation with a delegation from the University of Jos led by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya.

The delegation visited Arase to seek for partnership and collaboration  between the PSC and UNIJOS in areas of training, research and knowledge acquisition.

The PSC Chairman seized the occasion to announce that he has a dream of a Nigeria Police Force that is technology driven and knowledge based. He stressed that this has been his  priority since he assumed Office as the Chairman of the Commission.

He added that Policing had become scientific and technology driven and promised to partner with the University of Jos to develop officers for the challenging task of modern policing.

“Police is no more manual or analogue, it has become knowledge-based and technology-driven, and this is the only way we can confront the security challenges facing our nation. We can only reclaim and occupy the ungoverned spaces when we embrace this modern policing,” he said.

Arase traced his long-standing relationship with UNIJOS and promised to patronise the University in the training of both the Commission staff and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

He assured the visitors that the Commission would partner and collaborate with the University to build a new crop of policeman that would change the face of policing in Nigeria for the better. He said efforts were in place to improve the training manuals in police colleges to be in tandem with other training colleges  in other advanced nations.

Prof. Ishaya, the Vice Chancellor and leader of delegation had earlier told the PSC Chairman that the delegation was in his office to discuss possible areas of collaboration and partnership with the Commission.

Prof Ishaya said the University could assist in training police officers in cyber security, intelligence gathering, psychology, law and other fields that would help them improve their policing duties.

“We have experts, we have the manpower, we also have a Directorate of Internal Security and we can put together a training manual/programmes for the Police,” he told the PSC Chairman.

The Vice Chancellor’s delegation included Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration; Dr. Rejoice James Songden, Registrar, and Mr. Philip Fada Umbugala, Bursar.

Others are Mr. Nansak Nimchak, Yakubu Gomos, Dr. Lami Temine, Mrs. Shitnaan Hoomkwap and Nasuk Maigida.
