Former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon E. Arase, CFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff.

In a condolence letter addressed to the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, Dr. Arase paid tribute to General Lagbaja’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the nation, highlighting his legacy within the Nigerian Army.

Reflecting on their last interaction during the 2024 Army Day celebrations in Jos, Dr. Arase recalled General Lagbaja’s passion for building a stronger and more cohesive military.

“Known for his commitment to improving Army infrastructure and advocating for the welfare of his personnel, General Lagbaja was dedicated to fostering peaceful coexistence between military and civilian communities. These efforts underscored his loyalty to his soldiers and his country.

“During his tenure, though brief, General Lagbaja faced Nigeria’s security challenges head-on, particularly the fight against insurgency and banditry,” he stated.

Dr. Arase praised the late General’s holistic approach to security, which emphasized collaboration across all levels of society, inspiring confidence in the Army’s mission for peace and stability.

He said that General Lagbaja consistently urged citizens to support security agencies as essential partners.

Dr. Arase conveyed his condolences to General Lagbaja’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Armed Forces, noting that the nation has lost not only a courageous leader but also a principled man. He expressed hope that the late General’s dedication and achievements would inspire future leaders committed to a secure and united Nigeria.
