Governor Ademola Adeleke has promised to dualise the strategic road linking Ikire junction to Apomu and Ikoyi, describing the project as a catalyst for economic growth and inclusive development across Osun State.
The governor made the pledge while addressing residents at the Apomu Day celebrations held at ADC Grammar School, Apomu. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to even development, stressing that rural and semi-urban communities remain central to his government’s agenda.
“The dualisation of the Ikire–Apomu–Ikoyi road will open up the area for commerce and ease movement for residents and investors,” Adeleke said, assuring the community of sustained attention to infrastructure and social development.
In his remarks, Senator Lere Oyewumi, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate representing Osun West Senatorial District, said governance must translate to tangible development. He pledged to continue supporting Apomu as a key town within his district.
The President General of the Apomu Descendants Union (ADU) National and Diaspora, Jide Babalola, said this year’s Apomu Day went beyond celebration, focusing deliberately on development, sustainability and shared ownership. He announced the unveiling of a ₦250 million Community Endowment Fund to drive priority projects, including completion of an ultra-modern palace, youth empowerment initiatives and community infrastructure.
“In support of today’s launch, on behalf of 131 elite members of ADU, we collectively donate ₦25 million,” Babalola said.
Other notable donations followed. Honourable Lanre Oladebo, representing Ayedaade, Irewole and Isokan Federal Constituency and an indigene of Apomu, pledged ₦25 million. Chairman of Isokan Local Government Area, Goke Odetunde, assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Apomu would support the town’s growth and development. Former Minority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly and Apomu indigene, Ajibola Olanrewaju, also attended in solidarity.
Oba Kayode Afolabi, the Alapomu of Apomu, described the occasion as a double celebration, coinciding with his sixth coronation anniversary. He thanked sons and daughters of Apomu for their commitment and cooperation since his ascension to the throne, noting that self-help initiatives had already made a positive impact, with more progress expected through sustained collective effort.
Apomu Day, a major cultural event celebrating the town’s heritage and identity, was marked by colourful displays and music, with renowned Fuji musician Saheed Osupa thrilling the crowd with electrifying performances.
