The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lashed out at governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing them as “hypocritical, comatose and morbidly comical” in a fiery rebuttal to accusations of undemocratic conduct.
The ruling party’s response came after the PDP Governors’ Forum, in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Zamfara State on Saturday, accused the APC of lacking vision, direction, and democratic values, warning that Nigerians would reject it in the 2027 elections.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, APC described the PDP governors’ claims as “odiferous hypocrisy,” arguing that it was laughable for leaders of a party “savagely crippled by intractable crisis and reduced to an unrecognisable shadow of its old self” to point fingers at others.
“The PDP has since fallen into ruins, and stands rejected by Nigerians. When its Governors gather in their scanty numbers, one would expect them to have some shame and concentrate on how to resuscitate their terminally ailing party with a sense of urgency and responsibility. Instead, they prefer to waste their time making frivolous and senseless allegations and innuendos against our great Party,” APC said.
The ruling party pointed to its “dominant victory” in recent bye-elections in Zamfara, Adamawa, and Kano as proof that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda is resonating with Nigerians.
It accused the PDP of double standards, saying its governors hailed democracy only when they won elections but cried foul when defeated.
“The PDP Governors should eat the humble pie and accept the bye-elections verdict as a categorical declaration of loss of confidence and rejection of their party by the voting public,” the statement continued.
Warning that Nigeria would not return to what it described as “the dark era” of PDP’s federal rule, the APC urged Nigerians to “ignore empty and misleading rhetoric” from the opposition and instead rally behind President Tinubu in his drive to “pave a new and clear path of prosperity” for the country.
