The Ogun West Professionals for Yayi (OGWPY) have thrown their weight behind Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) following his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, describing the development as a strategic turning point for unity, equity and political stability in the state.

In a statement issued at the weekend, the group said the decision, announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun, signals “a watershed in the political evolution of Ogun State,” anchored on statesmanship, foresight and a deliberate effort to strengthen party cohesion.

OGWPY also acknowledged the broader political climate shaped by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his leadership has fostered discipline and alignment within the APC nationwide.

The group commended key political stakeholders, including former governors Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, for rallying behind Adeola’s candidacy, describing their collective endorsement as a demonstration of continuity and stability in Ogun politics.

It further praised the maturity of co-aspirants from Ogun West, particularly Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Abiodun Akinlade, for stepping aside in the interest of consensus, a move it said has elevated the state’s political culture and strengthened the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 poll.

OGWPY noted that endorsements from prominent figures such as Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, former Central Bank Deputy Governor Tunde Lemo, and ex-lawmaker Kayode Amusan have reinforced the growing political and technocratic support base around Adeola.

Describing the consensus arrangement as “a strategic consolidation rather than a pyrrhic victory,” the group said the alignment would help the APC avoid internal divisions, accelerate mobilisation and position the party for electoral dominance.

The group traced the momentum behind Adeola’s candidacy to sustained engagements, including its media chat held in Ilaro on February 1, 2026, which featured Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and helped galvanise professional and technocratic support across Ogun West.

According to OGWPY, emerging public sentiment has tilted significantly in favour of the senator, citing his track record in infrastructure development, human capital initiatives and empowerment programmes across the state’s 20 local government areas.

It described Adeola’s emergence as particularly significant for Ogun West Senatorial District, which has not produced a governor in over five decades, calling it “a long-awaited restoration of equity and justice.”

Highlighting his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, the group said Adeola’s tenure has already delivered tangible projects in roads, healthcare and education, positioning him as a credible candidate for accelerated development.

“As the journey to 2027 begins, this consensus has transformed potential rivalry into a binding covenant for progress,” the statement said, adding that the APC now has a clearer and more secure pathway to victory in the forthcoming governorship election.

OGWPY reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement and sustained advocacy in the interest of Ogun State’s development.
