Being vigilant 24/7 has paid off for a patrol team in Katsina that foiled a 7-man armed robbery gang on December 24.
According to Katsina police spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, the gang led by a man in army uniform was foiled by the patrol team led by a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Jibrin One Mohd, who was shot by the bandits in gun battle.
The police in Ogun also shot dead, on Christmas Day, a suspected member of an armed robbery gang that shot and injured a former Divisional Police Officer at Ogbere, Mr Adeyinka Akingbade.
Isah told NewsmakersNG that the Katsina gang had stormed the house of one Alhaji Abubakar Isah, the manager at Abdulsalam Global Petroleum in Funtua, whose station was the only one selling fuel amid the fuel crisis in the state.
Isah said that the bandits wanted to kidnap the manager, but he quickly alerted the police who arrived on time and engaged the gang in gun battle.
The DPO, however, sustained gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the Orthopedic Hospital in Katsina.
The Katsina State commissioner of police (CP), Mr Benson Gwana spoke of other accomplishments of his men when he paraded some suspects today.
He said, “Those arrested were Hussaini Ahmed and Mohammed Kabir, both of Tudun-wada area of Katsina.
“The duo were apprehended after they had used master key to steal black Honda car with registration No. ABC 351EF and Chassis No. 1HGCS 164A803628.”
He added that the police had also arrested two armed robbers who specialized in motorcycle theft in Katsina metropolis.
“The suspects are Rabe Hamza and Rabo Mayau, both of Nasarawa Bugaje ward in Katsina Metropolis. They were arrested following a tip-off.”
Gwana revealed that the suspects usually strangulate their victims
before seizing the motorcycle.
He appealed that members of the public should provide security operatives with information about criminals and their activities.
