The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has sealed some branches of Eko Commercial Bank in the state over alleged N2billion tax default.
Mr Achike Emejulu, the AIRS Executive Chairman, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) today in Awka.
He said that the agency sealed most of the bank’s branches in the state after obtaining writ of execution from the Court because of non remittance of Pay As You Earn tax.
Emejulu said that the N2billion tax accumulated from 2006 to 2011.
The chairman said that the government would recover all debts owed it by corporate organizations in the state.
He said that the agency would soon seal a beverage company in Onitsha and another commercial bank for their inability to pay their taxes.
Emejulu added that the state had about one million potential taxpayers, but only about 200, 000 are paying tax.
