Amid political uncertainties occasioned by President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede defeat in last week’s election, which has been called for his opponent, Joe Biden, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, has declared that the US military owes its allegiance to the constitution and not to any individual.
Milley stated this in a speech on Wednesday during the opening of the US Army’s museum in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
In a 36 seconds clip recorded by CNN, Milley stated, “We’re unique among militaries. We do not take an oath to a king or a queen, a tyrant or a dictator. We do not take an oath to an individual. No, we do not an oath to country, tribe or religion. We take an oath to the constitution. Every soldier that is represented in this museum, every sailor, airman, marine, coast guard, each of us will protect and defend that document regardless of personal price.”
