First babies born in Lagos in 2018 were received with a shower of gifts from the State’s first lady and Vitafoam.
Mrs. Bolanle Ambode urged mothers to make the best use of family planning while commending all leaders in the health sector and private companies like Vitafoam for their efforts towards achieving the best in health care delivery in Lagos.
In a chat with NewsmakersNG, the Group Managing Director of VitaFoam, Mr. Taiwo Ayodele Adeniyi, gave the assurance of Vitafoam’s unwavering commitment in contributing to the comfort and healthy growth of babies.
He spoke after the presentation of different quality baby kits to the lucky babies and parents at the Lagos Island Maternity on Monday.
According to Mr. Adeniyi, this has been the tradition of VitaFoam for decades.
He said, “Over the years, we have been known for good quality products. And this is part of our own way of giving back to the society. Quality products can only be used by those who appreciate quality. We pride ourselves in the fact that the company’s existence is highly dependent on the society, hence, our premium on new babies.”
In addition, VitaFoam assisted in renovating one of the labour wards and donated many gift items to the maternity and key staff.
“It’s not just for the women to come and have their babies. But we want to be sure that the facility is in good state, too,” he said.
The first birth was delivered at 12:05am. The lucky couple, Mr. and Mrs. Lateef and Basirat Ikudaisi, were full of praises to Vitafoam and Mrs Ambode.
“We are indeed so grateful for the show of love and pray for God’s continuous blessings on the donors,” Ikudaisi said.
There was a case of a baby found abandoned under Apongbon bridge and brought to the hospital.
Popularly referred to as the “baby factory” of Africa, Adeniyi said that was what informed the choice of Lagos Island Maternity for the Social Corporate Responsibility gesture.
Mrs Ambode visited three public hospitals in the state to welcome the first babies of the year. These include General Hospital, Ikorodu, Gbagada and Lagos Island Maternity Hospital.
She urged mothers to take good care of their babies and embrace family planning for better health.
In his speech, the Medical Director, Lagos Island Maternity, Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun commended Mrs. Ambode and VitaFoam for their valued support over the years as they have identified with them in various ways.
He commended VitaFoam and the First Lady for their many contributions to the growth of the hospital.
Eniayewun said, “We have been enjoying the Intensive Care Unit courtesy of the good gesture of our First Lady and like Oliver Twist, we are still seeking for more support ma.”
Thanking VitaFoam and the first lady for their amazing gifts, all the parents who benefitted from the good gesture expressed profound gratitude to Vitafoam and the Lagos First Lady for their kind gesture and a happy New Year package. Also to the doctors, nurses and other staff who treated them so well.
