In a strongly-worded letter issued on his official letterhead, Oba Abimbola Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, has directed an immediate halt to the activities of a purported coronation committee reportedly being formed without his authorisation.

The letter, dated January 28, 2025, and signed by the monarch, declared that any committee or activity initiated without prior approval from the Alaafin or his office is unauthorised and constitutes an illegality that “will not be allowed to exist.”

The monarch particularly addressed the organisers of the said committee, stating unequivocally that no consent had been granted for such activities.

“Further meetings in respect of the subject should be stopped immediately,” the letter read, warning that any fundraising efforts tied to the committee were also null and void unless sanctioned by the royal family.

While acknowledging the efforts of the organisers, Oba Owoade emphasised that any future initiatives or committees related to coronation matters would be determined at the discretion of the royal family, with a diverse composition of members chosen if deemed necessary.

The letter instructed the immediate dissolution of all apparatus associated with the unauthorised committee and warned against embarking on public initiatives without clearance from the Alaafin’s office.

Concluding his directive, the monarch invoked blessings for Oyo and the Yoruba land, affirming his commitment to upholding tradition and order within the kingdom.
