A police dispatch rider attached to the convoy of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has died in a road accident just two months before his scheduled retirement
The officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hussani Ibrahim, was part of the Senate President’s security detail when a petrol tanker collided with the motorcade in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Senate President Akpabio described the loss as “tragic” and praised Hussani for his dedication and professionalism since joining his convoy in 2023.
“We went to Oyo State for an official engagement, but unfortunately my dispatch rider was run over by a tanker driver,” Akpabio said, noting that Hussani was set to retire next year.
DSP Ibrahim has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Akpabio extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, the Inspector General of Police, and the entire Nigeria Police Force.
In a gesture of support and to honour the officer’s legacy, the Senate President announced automatic employment for DSP Ibrahim’s two senior sons within federal ministries, departments and agencies.
He further committed to personally ensuring their placement if necessary.
The Senate was informed of the incident during plenary, with motions raised to honour Hussani’s service and sacrifice.
DSP Ibrahim is survived by two wives and four children.
