Akeredolu Underplays Cracks on N5Bn Ore Interchange, Says Not a Structural Issue

Ololade Adeyanju/

Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has said there was no cause for alarm over reported cracks noticed on the Ore interchange, which was opened for use five months ago.

The governor in a tweet this morning via his verified handle, said the cracks were not due to structural issues, rather, caused by “expansion at the point where the asphalt meets the curbs”.

The governor however admitted that he too was worried when the development was first brought to his attention.

Akeredolu was reacting to a video published by an online news medium, SaharaReporters, showing the cracks which transverse the entire stretch of the bridge.

The interchange which was reportedly constructed at a cost of N5 billion, was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on February 25.

The governor wrote, “I saw this and was very concerned. The project team made me understand that this is from expansion at the point where the asphalt meets the curbs. There are no structural issues, just surface dressing. Bridge is still within defect liability period. Already being fixed.”
