Amid the controversy trailing the legality of his annoucement as the acting National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC), former Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, performed his first official function today by suing for peace within the party.

Ajimobi, who is the deputy national chairman of the party in the South, made the call through a statement today by his Special Adviser on Communications and Media, Bolaji Tunji.

He appealed to all APC stakeholders to continue to observe the peace as the party leadership works towards resolving all pending issues.

The statement further says that a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party would be convened very soon to resolve all contentious issues.

“We should therefore let peace continue to reign until we call the NEC meeting and take a position on the way forward,” the statement adds.

Ajimobi was named acting national chairman of APC in the aftermath of the order of the Court of Appeal affirming the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman.

According to a statement issued late yesterday by the party’s spokesperson, Lanre Issa-Onilu, Ajimobi is empowered to take over the leadership of the party in line with Section 14 subsection 3 of the APC constitution which states that, “the Deputy National Chairman shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”.

The national secretary, Hon. Victor Giadom, is also laying to the position of the acting national chairman of the party based on the ruling of an Abuja high court that suspended Oshiomhole.
