The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said it had identified the man that breached security to climb an Azman aircraft on the taxi way of the Lagos airport on Friday.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Capt Hamisu Yadudu, who spoke at a press conference at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, yesterday, gave the name of the suspect as Usman Adamu, a citizen of the Republic of the Niger.
The man had reportedly been transferred from the Lagos Airport Police Command to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for further interrogation.
A statement by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, quoted Yadudu as saying they had put new measures in place to enhance security at all airports across the country.
The MD said the Federal Government had awarded contracts for perimeter fences at the airports, including detection devices and CCTV cameras with infrared capacity for night operations.
He added that FAAN was also planning to erect observation towers this year for a proper monitoring and coverage of the Lagos airport.
“FAAN has a security patrol/escort team in place for arriving and departing aircraft, but another joint patrol team involving FAAN Aviation Security, the police and the military has also been constituted to assist in protecting the sanctity of our airside and ensuring the security of live operations and the travelling public using our facilities,” the statement further quoted the MD as saying.
According to him, new threats surface daily in aviation with criminals fashioning out ways to circumvent security architecture.
