Mrs. Elizabeth Olusolape Ajibola has been re-elected as Global President of the Abeokuta Girls Grammar School Old Students’ Association (AGGSOGA), promising to deepen unity, expand membership and strengthen the association’s support for its alma mater during her second four-year term.
Ajibola and other newly elected global executives were inaugurated at a ceremony attended by elders, past presidents, members of the outgoing executive and alumni from across the world.
Speaking during the inauguration, AGGSOGA elder, Dr. Hammond, urged the new leadership to remain focused on its vision and avoid distractions from rumours and hearsay. She prayed for wisdom and success for the administration.
Another elder, Mrs. Lara Olanrewaju, called on members to embrace unity and a shared sense of purpose in pursuit of the association’s collective aspirations, while Mrs. Omolara Eniola prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and God’s continuous presence throughout the tenure of the new executive.
In her acceptance speech, Ajibola expressed gratitude to God and members of the association for renewing their confidence in her leadership.
She paid tribute to former presidents and past executives for laying a solid foundation that has ensured stability and sustained progress within AGGSOGA.
Reviewing her first term, Ajibola said the association increased its membership to more than 1,500 and successfully strengthened its operational structures despite numerous challenges. She also acknowledged her 1978 graduating set, describing herself as a proud member.
Outlining her vision for the next four years, the Global President said her administration would prioritise unity, fairness and the mobilisation of all alumni towards the development of Abeokuta Girls Grammar School.
She disclosed that a comprehensive roadmap would be unveiled after extensive consultations with members, adding that the ultimate goal was to build an association that every AGGS alumna would be proud to belong to.
“Time is more expensive than money and we’ll be spending a lot of time together,” she said. “It is our hope, God helping us, that at the end of this tenure, every student of AGGS, Abeokuta, will look forward to joining the Alumnae and contributing to our alma mater.”
Describing herself as “first among equals,” Ajibola stressed the importance of teamwork and collaboration, citing the successful celebration of the school’s 70th anniversary as evidence of what members could achieve collectively.
She also commended the newly elected Global Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu, for successfully coordinating the association’s election and inauguration processes.
Ajibola concluded by appreciating her family, particularly her husband, for their unwavering support, while assuring members that the new executive would dedicate itself fully to advancing the objectives of the association.
Other members of the newly inaugurated executive are Abimbola Oshikoya (Global Vice President), Bolaji Ololade (Global General Secretary), Grace Majoyegbe (Assistant Global General Secretary), Olukemi Kalejaye (Global Welfare Officer), Joy Oji (Global Treasurer), Laide Omosebi (Global Social Secretary), Ajoke Aregbesola (Assistant Global Social Secretary), and Aderayo Fatoki (Global Internal Auditor).
