The Abeokuta Girls Grammar School Old Students Association (AGGSOGA) illuminated the city with a grand celebration marking the 70th anniversary of their alma mater.
The week-long event, spearheaded by Global President Mrs. Olusolape Ajibola, was a blend of nostalgia, camaraderie, and an unwavering commitment to the school’s legacy.
The festivities commenced with Community Walks and Health Checks, emphasizing AGGSOGA’s dedication to social responsibility. Sporting events and a vibrant match-past by various year sets added an air of excitement, culminating in a spirited cocktail party sponsored by Mrs. Kusamotu. The gala night at the prestigious Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library was another highlight, featuring award presentations and captivating cultural performances.

A major highlight was the special Thanksgiving service held at the historic St. Peter’s Church, Ake. The event drew a distinguished audience, including the paramount ruler, Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, as well as former and current teachers. Mrs. Sobukunola and Miss James were among the retired educators who graced the occasion, reminiscing about their time at the school.
AGGSOGA Global President, Mrs. Ajibola, took the sole Bible reading from 1 Samuel 17:32-50, setting the stage for an inspiring sermon by Bishop Oludaisi Adekunle. He commended the old girls for their unwavering dedication to mentoring current students, likening their efforts to the biblical Dorcas. He urged them to embody the wisdom and virtues of women like Abigail, Dorcas, and Mary Magdalene.
The church resonated with hymns and songs of gratitude as the alumni, adorned in elegant blue and white Aso Oke head ties, reflected on their journey. The presence of the first Headgirl, Mrs. Adedoyin Onayiga, added a special touch, as younger year sets and students gathered around her in admiration.
During the gala night, a surprise honor was bestowed upon Mrs. Ajibola in the form of a gold-plated wooden plaque, recognizing her steadfast dedication to AGGSOGA’s causes. The event also saw the immediate past Global President, Yeye Otunba Adetola Hassan, in high spirits as she joyfully reunited with old friends.

The 70th-anniversary celebration was more than just a milestone—it was a testament to the enduring spirit of sisterhood, excellence, and service that defines AGGSOGA. As the alumni danced, laughed, and shed tears of joy, it was evident that their shared heritage would continue to inspire generations to come.
