In what is fast becoming an everyday occurrence, the police have again arrested a man who defiled a 6-year-old girl in Ogun.
Just yesterday, the police in Lagos paraded a 35-year-old bricklayer who slept with a 5-year-old girl in the state, and hardly is there a month now without reports of such cases of defilement of innocent children.
Today, 26-year-old Daniel Essien was arrested for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 6-year-old girl.
His arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, Mrs Ayoola Tolulope, residing at Alagbole area of Akute in Ogun.
Tolulope reported that she was called by her child’s school teacher to be watchful of her daughter because the girl confided in her that a man has been abusing her sexuallly.
This made her to interrogate the child on her arrival from school, and the girl told her that it was Essien, a barber in the neighborhood who has had carnal knowledge of her three times.
Ogun police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi told NewsmakersNG: “On the strength of the report, the DPO Ajuwon Division, CSP Afolabi Kazeem, led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, he first denied the allegation; but when the girl was taken to hospital and the medical report confirmed it, he owned up to the commission of the crime.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the suspect be transferred to Anti-Human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution of the suspect.”
