The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Cup of Nations will hold in June and July from 2019.
The biennial tournament has been traditionally held in January and February.
CAF have also announced that the tournament in Cameroon in two years time will be expanded to include 24 teams, instead of 16.
The competition will continue to be held every two years, and exclusively held in Africa, preserving plans to take it abroad to China and Qatar.
The changes were finalised by the CAF executive committee in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, on Thursday.
