The aerodrome certification of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State, by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has been described as a major catalyst for boosting investor confidence and enhancing global competitiveness.

Mrs. Lynda Ezike, South-South Regional Manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), made the assertion in Port Harcourt while responding to questions from journalists.

Ezike explained that the certification has strategically positioned the airport for international recognition, improved safety assurance, and ease of doing business, thereby making it more attractive to investors, airline operators, and other aviation stakeholders.

She reaffirmed FAAN’s commitment to leveraging the certification to deliver improved services and operational efficiency at the airport.

“We will continue to uphold all operational policies in the aviation sector,” she said.
The airport manager, who recently emerged Best Regional Manager of the Year 2025, noted that the certification confirms that the facility fully meets globally accepted aviation standards.

According to her, the airport excelled in key assessment areas including infrastructure, operational procedures, and safety management systems.

Ezike disclosed that the NCAA, in its drive to institutionalise global best practices across Nigeria’s airport network, recently issued aerodrome certificates to both the Port Harcourt International Airport and the Kano International Airport.
She commended the rigorous certification process, stressing that it would significantly enhance investor confidence among airline operators, passengers, and other airport users.

“The certification, which was officially presented on December 19, 2025, followed a strict and rigorously structured regulatory process jointly carried out by the NCAA and FAAN,” she said.

Ezike added that the exercise underscored the importance of strong inter-agency collaboration in promoting safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
