Following the death of Ranti Daudu, the wife of a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), of a heart attack, at a hospital, in Kaduna, on Thursday, rights activists, who were close to her, have suggested her death might be a fallout of the long years of domestic violence she had endured.
In a series of tweets, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, alleged that the deceased endured 28 years of vicious domestic violence.
The tweets read: “Aftr more than 28 yrs of vicious domestic violence, my big sister, Ranti Daudu, died last night in Kaduna. Awful!!!
“Ranti had heart, soul & goodness. She endured torture no one shd live with at the hands of a big man. She’s at rest.
“Ranti Daudu was also the ablest advocate for the human rights of persons with disabilities.”
On her part, a co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls group, Aisha Yesufu, revealed that late Ranti disclosed to her in their last conversation that even her children had told her to leave the marriage, due to incessant abuse.
She tweeted:”Oh God! R B Daudu my big Sis. Last we discussed she said even the children had asked her to leave else they wont have respect for her.”
