The police in Abia State made 492 arrests including 257 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers and killed 14 others for same crimes within the last one year.

The details are contained in the handing over note of the former Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Mr Leye Oyebade, who has passed on the baton to CP Anthony Ogbizi Michael, after serving for a year in Abia State.

Newsmakers learnt that Oyebade’s men rescued 35 kidnapped victims and 13 babies, recovered 92 stolen vehicles, 13 motorcycles, and seven tricycles.

Since Oyebade resumed on August 8, 2016, till his transfer this month, Newsmakers learnt that the police in Abia recovered 84 assorted arms and 90 rounds of ammunition of diverse calibre.

The recovered arms included AK47, Pump Action rifle, Revolver Pistol, locally made guns, double-barrel and single-barrel guns.

Oyebade received commendations from the state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, who hosted him before he left Umuahia to take charge of the Railway Police Command.

He was celebrated and presented an award plaque with the pictures posted on the Facebook page of Abia State Police Command.

One of Oyebade’s admirers on the Facebook page, Alaribe Gani Ugochukwu, says: “Congrats my CP. May God elevate you to positions of higher responsibility in the service of our nation IJN, Amen.”
