As Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Lanre Ogunlowo, completes one year at the helm of the State Police Command, communities across the Gateway State are reflecting on a tenure defined by visionary leadership, strengthened security architecture, and renewed public confidence in law enforcement.

Since his assumption of duty in December 2024, CP Ogunlowo’s strategy has been anchored in professionalism, proactive crime prevention, and robust engagement with citizens and stakeholders aimed at restoring peace and reinforcing stability across the state.

From the onset, CP Ogunlowo’s leadership has advanced the Ogun State Command’s operational readiness and responsiveness to crime. One of the most widely noted early achievements was the prompt rescue of Mrs. Folashade Odumosu, wife of a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, who was abducted in January 2025. The swift tactical response and coordinated operation under his command resulted in her safe release, sending a clear message to criminal elements that the police under Ogunlowo would prioritise the protection of life and property.

Throughout the year, the command under his stewardship has been visible in tackling emerging security challenges across the state, including crackdowns on unregistered vehicles and motorcycles linked to violent crime, reinforcing law enforcement across Ogun’s highways and urban centres as part of a pro-security agenda.

He has also been deliberate in confronting violent attacks and criminality. In response to community concerns following an attack in Osuke Village, Ota, CP Ogunlowo ordered a full-scale investigation and reinforced police operations to track and apprehend those responsible, a demonstration of his commitment to justice and community reassurance.

Beyond direct operations, CP Ogunlowo’s leadership philosophy emphasises community collaboration and communication. In January 2025, he engaged with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta to address media-raised security concerns, outline investigative strategies, and encourage proactive public support for crime reporting. His interaction underscored the importance of police–media synergy in combating insecurity and fostering an informed citizenry.

Under his watch, police personnel have also been urged to uphold ethical conduct and human rights.

In February 2025, newly enlisted constables were charged by CP Ogunlowo to maintain professionalism, integrity, and zero tolerance for corruption as they enter active duty, a cultural shift intended to rebuild public trust in the police force.

CP Ogunlowo has not shied away from advancing clear policy pronouncements on law enforcement priorities. In interactions with community leaders, including traditional rulers in Yewa Land, he reaffirmed a zero-tolerance stance on land-grabbing and related disturbances, assuring strict enforcement of the law and accountability for offenders.

His leadership has also ensured stronger collaborations with sister security agencies, exemplified by courtesy visits to partner commands, including the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps, aimed at harmonising interagency efforts for statewide security.

CP Ogunlowo’s strategic vision has not gone unnoticed. Reports from official command briefings highlight marked improvements in state security and heightened community trust under his stewardship, a testament to his people-centred approach to policing and tactical innovations.
His leadership was also publicly acknowledged through recognitions and awards, affirming his contributions to modern policing and crime reduction, further consolidating his reputation as a forward-thinking and dynamic law enforcement leader.

As he marks one year in office, CP Lanre Ogunlowo reflects a new chapter in public safety for Ogun State, one built on strategic foresight, community engagement, and professional excellence.

With sustained partnerships and focused police work, residents and stakeholders alike anticipate continued gains in security, peace, and stability across the Gateway State.
