In a remarkable fusion of academia and law enforcement, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. Akinbayo Olasoji Olasunkanmi Aremu has added another feather to his cap by earning a Doctorate in Economics from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
This milestone, achieved through rigorous research and scholarly dedication, underscores his commitment to both intellectual pursuit and public service.
DCP Olasoji received the prestigious degree during the university’s 29th doctoral convocation, held on March 28 and 29, 2025, at the institution’s main auditorium in Ado Ekiti. His doctoral thesis, titled Economic Crimes, Poverty, and Economic Growth in Selected African Countries, delves into the intricate link between poverty and economic crimes while exploring strategies for sustainable growth through collaboration between government institutions, including the police, and the citizenry.

Reflecting on his academic journey, Dr. Olasoji expressed gratitude to God, his family, and friends for their unwavering support.
“It has been a long and rewarding journey in my pursuit of a PhD. I am grateful to God for His grace and my family for their support,” he said.
He also acknowledged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, a PhD holder, for fostering an environment that encourages police officers to advance their education.
He added, “IGP Egbetokun has set an example through his own lifestyle that continuous learning is possible, no matter the demands of one’s career. I encourage my fellow officers and Nigerians at large to keep seeking knowledge.”
Beyond academia, DCP Olasoji is widely recognized for his principled approach to policing. His integrity and discipline earned him a special promotion in 2017 after rejecting a substantial bribe in a high-profile case. With extensive professional training in humanitarian law, counterterrorism, and financial crime investigations—both in Nigeria and abroad—he has continually demonstrated a commitment to justice and national security.
His scholarly contributions extend beyond his thesis, with co-authored research works widely cited in economic and policy studies. His 2019 study on Exchange Rate Volatility and Economic Growth in Nigeria has influenced research across Africa, while his work on economic crimes and financial development has been referenced in multiple academic papers exploring the nexus between crime and economic stability.
Despite the demands of policing, Dr. Olasoji also serves as a pastor at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, seamlessly integrating faith with service. His leadership in various postings across Nigeria, from Lagos to Enugu, has significantly contributed to public safety and economic progress.
With this academic achievement, DCP Olasoji not only strengthens his expertise but also reinforces the narrative that knowledge is a powerful tool in shaping effective law enforcement and national development.
