President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia in Kaduna State.

The appointment of Bishop Kukah, a respected cleric and advocate for national development, signals the administration’s commitment to excellence in higher education. Alongside him, President Tinubu also named key officers to lead the university:

  • Vice Chancellor – Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas
  • Registrar – Sanusi Gambo Adamu
  • Bursar – Ibrahim Dalhat
  • University Librarian – Prof. Daniel Abubakar

Additionally, the President appointed distinguished professionals to the university’s Governing Council: Mr. Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East), Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East).

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, formerly Nok University, was recently acquired by the federal government and is set to admit its first batch of students in September 2025.

President Tinubu urged the appointees to leverage their expertise and leadership skills to position the institution as a center of academic excellence and research, in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda.

This strategic move underscores the administration’s vision for expanding access to quality education and fostering innovation in Nigeria’s higher learning institutions.
