In a strategic move to bolster leadership within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ahmed Lateef as his new Principal Staff Officer (PSO).
DCP Lateef, a seasoned officer with a distinguished career in law enforcement, previously served as the officer-in-charge of SCIID, Panti, Lagos, the Police Operations and Formed Police Unit (FPU) Coordinator for the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). He was also the Personal Assistant to former IGP MD Abubakar and a Zonal Head of Operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he led cybercrime investigations.
According to a statement from the Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Lateef’s extensive training, locally and internationally, positions him as a valuable asset in his new role.
In addition to this key appointment, the IGP, following the approval of the Police Service Commission, has redeployed senior officers to enhance security operations across the country. Commissioner of Police (CP) Johnson Adenola has been assigned to lead the Oyo State Command, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his tenure as the IGP’s Principal Staff Officer. Similarly, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa has been appointed as the new CP of Enugu State, succeeding AIG Uzuegbu Kanayo. CP Giwa previously served as Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner in the Police Mobile Force (PMF) at Force Headquarters, as well as Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Kaduna State Command.
The IGP emphasized that these strategic deployments are aimed at strengthening policing efforts and ensuring effective law enforcement nationwide. He urged the newly appointed officers to uphold the core values of the force—decency, transparency, and accountability—as they take on their new responsibilities.
