President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) following a rigorous selection process. His appointment, approved on March 4, 2025, will take effect on March 7, 2025, the same day the outgoing AGF, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire.

Ogunjimi, 57, emerged as the top candidate after a competitive, multi-stage selection process overseen by a federal committee. The process included a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and an oral interview, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transparency and meritocracy in public service appointments.

A seasoned financial expert, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1990) and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to uphold the principles of integrity, professionalism, and dedication in managing Nigeria’s financial affairs.

Ogunjimi steps into this crucial role at a time of economic reforms and fiscal restructuring, with expectations that his leadership will strengthen accountability and efficiency in the nation’s financial management.
