The police have confirmed the arrest of Odukaye Kunle, the man captured in a disturbing viral video brutally assaulting his young son, Boluwatife, during a domestic dispute with his wife.
The incident, which occurred at 16 Popoola Street, Oko Baale, Ado Odo Ota, Ogun State, has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.
In the now-viral video, Kunle is seen venting his anger on his innocent son.
Boluwatife, in a heart-wrenching display of affection, approaches his father seeking a hug, only to be struck with shocking intensity.
The blow sent the toddler flying into the air before landing on the ground. This tragic contrast between the child’s love and the father’s uncontrolled anger left viewers enraged and heartbroken.
In an update shared by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Kunle was arrested by police in Ogun State.
Adejobi stated in a social media post, “Odukaye Kunle, the father who brutalised his son, Boluwatife, in Otta area, Ogun State, has just been arrested by the police. The mother of the boy and the boy will be taken to our police medical centre, Otta, for further medical assessment and attention. The OC Medical, Ogun State, has been ordered to proceed to Otta on this mission.
“Kunle will be charged to court on Monday. We commend the CP Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their commitment and ensuring that the boy gets justice. We appreciate you all for your concerns as well. Thanks.”
Adejobi had earlier condemned the incident in a Facebook post, describing unchecked anger as destructive.
He wrote, “Anger is evil and destructive. Do you know that the young boy, Boluwatife, who was brutalised by his biological father in the viral video, wanted to even hug his dad to show affection? The innocent boy was so much maltreated because of anger. Let’s always manage our anger no matter the provocation. Thanks to you all for your concern. We are still on the matter.”
The video has drawn significant attention on social media, with calls for swift legal action to protect Boluwatife and ensure justice. Many have condemned Kunle’s actions as inhumane, calling for stronger measures to address domestic violence and child abuse in Nigeria.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to holding Kunle accountable.
Boluwatife and his mother are set to receive medical attention at the police medical center in Otta, Ogun State, under the directive of the OC Medical. Kunle is expected to face charges in court on Monday.
