The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening internal security and boosting economic prosperity through inclusive policing.

This resolution was reached at the 5th Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from February 24 to 26, 2025.

Themed “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity through Inclusive Policing,” the high-profile event was declared open by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON. It was attended by top security officials, including international police chiefs from Kenya and Rwanda, state governors, and key government representatives.

The conference addressed critical security challenges and set forth actionable strategies to modernize Nigeria’s policing system. Among the major highlights were:

Technology-Driven Policing: Adoption of digital forensic tools, the establishment of a COMPSTAT performance management system, and the deployment of drones and electric motorcycles for enhanced surveillance and mobility.

Mental Health Support for Officers: Institutionalizing psychological assessments and stress management programs for police personnel, alongside revamping the Counseling Unit across formations.

Community Engagement & Inclusive Policing: Strengthening collaboration between police and local communities to rebuild trust and enhance intelligence gathering.

Cybercrime Crackdown: Expansion of digital forensic laboratories, recovery of over ₦8 billion and $80,000 through cybercrime investigations, and continued efforts to remove Nigeria from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List.

Specialized Training & Recruitment: Overhauling police training curricula to align with emerging security threats, professionalizing law enforcement, and enhancing international collaborations for capacity building.

Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun emphasized the transition from reactive policing to intelligence-led and preventive security strategies. He reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to leveraging technology, inter-agency cooperation, and international partnerships to tackle organized crime, insurgency, and cyber threats.

The conference concluded with the presentation of certificates of attendance to participants, including CG Felix Namuhoranye, Inspector-General of the Rwanda National Police. The Inspector-General of Police officially declared the retreat closed, noting that the resolutions would serve as a roadmap for a more effective, modern, and community-oriented police force.

Also in attendance were DIG Frank Mba, retired DIG Leye Oyebade, retired CP Olusola Amore, and retired CP Titilayo Kayode among other serving and retired officers.
