A detached tyre from a moving vehicle ended the life of a pedestrian yesterday at Kara Under Bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The victim, identified as Auwalu Abdulkadir, a truck driver from Kano State, was killed instantly when a loose tyre from a Kia commercial bus (Reg. No. LAGOS MUS 200 YE) hit him at approximately 2:05 PM.
According to CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the driver of the Kia bus was reportedly traveling against traffic when the tyre detached. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which has since been towed to the police station for further investigation.
Police officers from the Motor Traffic Division (MOTOPOL) swiftly responded to the scene, documenting evidence and ensuring the free flow of traffic. The deceased’s body has been deposited at Real Divine Touch Mortuary, Ibafo.
The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing driver and urges motorists to adhere to traffic laws and maintain their vehicles properly to prevent similar tragedies.
