Controversial musician Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command following a violent attack on government officials during an enforcement exercise in Ota, Ogun State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, late yesterday.
She revealed that the incident occurred on February 5, 2025, at about 10am, when three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development’s Ota Zonal Office—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were carrying out their duties at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
According to Odutola, the officials arrived at Odogwu Bar in the area and met an elderly man, later identified as Portable’s father. The officials requested the approved building plan for the premises but were informed that Portable was unavailable.
Things took a violent turn when Portable reportedly arrived at the scene with nine suspected thugs and launched a physical assault on the officials.
Odutola detailed the incident: “Portable, in a show of aggression, stormed the scene wielding a firearm and leading nine thugs. They assaulted the government officials, leaving them with various injuries.
“The victims managed to escape and immediately reported the case to the Ota Area Command.”
Following the report, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action.
Odutola noted that while nine of Portable’s accomplices were arrested and subsequently arraigned in court, the singer fled the scene and has since been on the run.
The nine arrested suspects were arraigned two weeks ago before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta.
The charges included assault, felony, and illegal possession of weapons such as guns and cutlasses. The incident was directly linked to Portable’s alleged orchestration of the attack.
Efforts to bring Portable to justice have so far been met with defiance.
Odutola said, “Several formal invitations were extended to Portable, asking him to appear at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, either personally or through his legal representative. Unfortunately, he has blatantly ignored these invitations without providing any reasonable justification.”
Following his non-compliance, the police obtained a court order declaring Portable wanted.
“His refusal to cooperate has left us with no choice but to take legal action. We have secured a valid court order declaring him wanted, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served,” Odutola stated.
The police have appealed to the public for assistance in locating Portable.
“We urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to report it to the nearest police station. Let me be clear: anyone found harbouring or aiding him will face the full weight of the law,” Odutola warned.
The Ogun State Police Command also emphasised its dedication to upholding the law and protecting public servants.
“We will not condone acts of violence against officials performing their lawful duties. Justice will prevail,” Odutola concluded.
