The Kogi State High Court in Lokoja has ordered Alhaji Ahmed Tijani-Anaje to cease acting as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.
This ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed by Daudu Adeku-Ojiah, Hussain Yusuf, and Abdulrahaam Suberu, who challenged Tijani-Anaje’s appointment by former Governor Yahaya Bello.
The plaintiffs argued that the selection process violated established traditional protocols and lacked proper consultation with key stakeholders in Ebiraland.
The court’s decision underscores the ongoing controversies surrounding the traditional leadership of the region.
Alhaji Ahmed Tijani-Anaje was appointed as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland on January 8, 2024, following the death of the previous Ohinoyi, Dr. Ado Ibrahim, who passed away on October 29, 2023, at the age of 95.
His appointment was part of a broader move by Governor Bello, who also deposed three other traditional rulers in the state at that time.
The removal of Tijani-Anaje adds to the historical disputes over the Ohinoyi throne. Notably, in 2015, the Supreme Court upheld the appointment of Dr. Ado Ibrahim as the Ohinoyi, ending an 18-year legal battle over his selection.
