President Bola Tinubu has applauded Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, famously known as Tems, for clinching the prestigious Best African Music Performance award at the 67th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

The historic win, celebrated yesterday night, marks yet another milestone for the artist, further solidifying Nigeria’s dominance in the global music industry.

In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu expressed immense pride in Tems’ artistry, which he said has once again placed Nigeria on the global stage.

“On behalf of the entire nation, I commend Tems for her unique artistry, which has brought pride to Nigeria on the world stage for the second time,” Tinubu stated.

The President hailed the rise of a new generation of multi-talented Nigerian artists who have transformed Afrobeats into a global phenomenon.

“From Africa to Antarctica, Asia to Australia, Europe to the Americas, the Nigerian music industry, particularly Afrobeats, has become a source of national pride, promoting a sense of identity and self-expression while uniting people across borders,” Tinubu remarked.

Beyond celebrating Tems, Tinubu also acknowledged other Nigerian superstars nominated for the 2025 Grammys, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy.

He praised their creative excellence, calling them “inspiration and role models to many young people,” while highlighting their contributions to music, job creation, and tourism.

The President’s tribute encapsulates the cultural significance of Nigerian music, which has not only redefined global soundscapes but also positioned Nigeria as a beacon of innovation and creativity.

With Tems’ victory and the growing global recognition of Afrobeats, Tinubu’s message resonates as a rallying cry for continued artistic excellence and national pride. “The nation remains deeply grateful for your contributions,” he said, urging these artists to keep pushing boundaries.

This latest Grammy triumph is a testament to Nigeria’s unparalleled influence in the music world, proving once again that the beats from Lagos continue to set the rhythm for the world.
