Police in Ogun State have successfully rescued Mrs. Odumosu, the wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Hakeem Odumosu, following a harrowing seven-day abduction.

According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the victim was rescued unharmed in the early hours of Thursday during an intelligence-driven operation.

She had been kidnapped from her residence in the Arepo area of Ogun State by four masked men who ambushed her around 10 PM last Thursday.

The kidnappers demanded a N40 million ransom and held her captive in a swampy creek in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. Acting on intelligence, the anti-kidnapping unit of the Ogun State Police Command stormed the location on January 23, 2025.

Adejobi detailed the high-stakes encounter, saying, “Upon arrival, the operatives encountered the kidnappers, who immediately opened fire. In the ensuing shootout, two of the kidnappers were neutralized, while four others managed to flee. Mrs. Odumosu was rescued during the operation without any injuries.”

Police recovered a cache of weapons, including four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrelled guns, various ammunition, and N10 million of the ransom money.

Mrs. Odumosu has since been reunited with her family after undergoing a medical evaluation.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, lauded the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their bravery and professionalism in executing the successful rescue operation.
