Adegoke Fayoade, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) at the Police Service Commission’s (PSC) first Plenary Meeting under its new board.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the meeting held today saw the promotion of a total of 684 senior police officers across various ranks.

Presided over by PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, the meeting was a landmark event, with the participation of key members including retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

Fayoade, along with seven other Commissioners of Police, was elevated to the rank of AIG. The promotion underscores his exceptional service and leadership in one of Nigeria’s most challenging police commands.

The promotion process, which involved rigorous assessments and examinations, marks a shift towards a merit-based system in the Nigeria Police Force.

In addition to Fayoade’s elevation, 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to full Commissioners of Police, 52 Chief Superintendents were promoted to Assistant Commissioners, 525 Superintendents were elevated to Chief Superintendents, and 84 Deputy Superintendents were promoted to the rank of Superintendents of Police. ASP Patrick Ebhodahe also advanced to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The newly promoted AIGs include CP Benneth Igwe, CP Suleiman Mohammed Abdul, CP Augustina Nwuka Ogbodo, CP Stephen Olanrewaju, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, CP Adegboyega Funsho Adegboye, and CP Mohammed Bala Labbo.

The 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police elevated to  substantive Commissioners of Police are DCP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, DCP Betty  Enekpen Otimenyin, DCP James Iroegbunam Nwokolo, DCP Felix Nka Oben, DCP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosayin, DCP Ugobueze Ogbodo, DCP Ohagwu Felix Ndukwe, DCP Taylor Lennox Olarewaju, DCP Sa’adatu Ismaila, DCP Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, DCP Regina Cosmas Udoette, DCP Francis Omatimeyin Gbiwen, DCP Afolabi  Wilfred Olatokunbo, DCP Ohiozoba Oyakhire Ehiede, and DCP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya.

Addressing the officers, DIG Argungu stressed the importance of continuous self-development and knowledge acquisition, essential for meeting the demands of 21st-century policing. He announced that moving forward, formal examinations would be mandatory for promotions, aligning with the Public Service Rules for all federal civil servants.

The PSC Chairman reassured that promotions would be timely and based on merit, urging the newly promoted officers, including AIG Fayoade, to intensify their efforts in combating insurgency and banditry, thereby ensuring the security of the nation.

According to PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, the promotions have been officially communicated to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation and further necessary actions.
